Adobe awards scholarship winners and Nigerians are among the winners
On the maiden launch of its scholarship program announced January 2020 which targets young individuals with distinct design skills, Adobe alongside Design circle has finally released the names of those who have been qualified for the esteemed scholarship fund.
Adobe, officially known as Adobe systems is an American company, popular for its multimedia and creativity software products which include Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
According to the design group, its winners and applicants are focused on product or industrial design as a career in their various institutions. After reviewing applicants from over 80 countries around the world, The design group picked up on its 10 winners, and we spotted two Nigerians among these tech-savvy individuals.
Each individual will receive up to $25,000 per year and can be renewed for up to four years or until completion of their undergraduate degree, scholarships are also renewed each year pending the student’s academic progress.
Along with the scholarship comes a variety of mentorship opportunities for winners, including internship, workshops, networking, etc. Each individual also receives a free Adobe creative cloud subscription for each year.
It is rather a thing to celebrate as these individuals have scaled over 1000 other applicants to be among the top ten selected. Africans have been known to be doing very well in the creative and tech industry and as such deserve to be hugely commended, these Nigerians alongside another black (Jonathan woods) from Tennessee are those with dark skin listed.
The two individuals are Sola Babatunde and Edidiong Okon.
Sola is from western Nigeria but was born in Garland, Texas.
According to his LinkedIn account, he is a lead product designer at ACE labs and has built tech innovations for Google, Facebook, ESPN, startups among others. He used to be a filmmaker, a game designer, and He has experience as a teacher. Today Sola designs products with the user and developer requirements in mind. He hopes to build tools useful to anyone regardless of their Cultural, Personal, and Educational background. He is currently a student at Texas A&M University.
Edidiong is a young lady who was born in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Nigeria, She is a student at Carleton University Canada. She is a web and mobile app designer and she hopes to use this platform to solve problems unique to African societies and inspire youths to reach their greatest potential.
This news has been welcomed by everyone especially Africans at home and Diaspora as they see this feat as a source of motivation and encouragement; commendations have been going to the Nigerian youth to put their intellect to good use, just who knows, where the next star to make Nigeria proud would come from.
